Two artists of the African Diaspora, one in the United States and one in Brazil, in a sequence of video, painting, sculpture, assemblage, large-scale environments and interactive works.
The exhibition turns on two linked ideas. Transportation follows the movement of people and ideas across place and time, by ship, by rail and on foot, through journeys both forced and chosen. Transmission considers how place shapes the lived experience of the African Diaspora, and the communication that passes between people and the natural world, its plants and its stones.
